Botox for Wrinkles

Botox for Wrinkles

Many people when asked what Botox does will say ‘it gets rid of wrinkles’ however, the truth is a bit more complicated than that.

All wrinkles are not the same and there are two different types of facial wrinkles- ‘dynamic’ wrinkles and ‘static’ wrinkles which need to be treated differently.

Botox for Dynamic Wrinkles

Dynamic wrinkles are those that are caused by muscle movement i.e. when you frown, lift your eyebrows or smile. Botox works to relax the muscles that are causing the skin above to wrinkle with movement, common areas to treat are the crows’ feet ( the lines that form around the eyes when we smile) Botox treatment is a great option for these type of wrinkles and gives lovely results.

Profhilo or Dermal Fillers for Static Wrinkles

Static wrinkles tend not to be caused by muscular movement, they are there even when your face is at rest. Static wrinkles are caused by a reduction of collagen and elastin in the skin. This can be due to sun damage, smoking, diet or aging. Botox can help soften these lines, but you tend to need a few botox treatments to get rid of these completely. Sometimes these lines are better treated by using medical grade skincare, in- clinic skin treatments such as Profhilo or dermal fillers.
